What's more patriotic than the pursuit of knowledge?! (Probably lots of things, but, moving on....) We spent our 4th
of July with my parents at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
While not the traditional way to spend Independence Day, we had a great
time seeing the current dinosaur exhibit and learning all about the
largest dinosaurs. The kids mostly just enjoyed the part where they
could dig up dinosaur bones, which basically meant playing in the dirt/sand (the exhibit was clearly geared toward an
older audience). The littles also enjoyed a trip to the kids area to
play with the simple machines and water table before we headed to
lunch. You know it was a busy day when even Noah falls asleep in the
car -- I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times that kid has
fallen asleep in the car, and after the museum he was *out.* After some nap time in the car we ate lunch, then headed home. By then, the kids were ready to play again and were not going to take any sort of a nap, so we watched Frozen instead. With the crazy schedule for the day, a small nursing baby, and a little bit of laziness, we opted not to do fireworks (again) this year. I'm looking forward to the days when everyone is just a bit older for 4th of July, because this momma *loves* fireworks and I miss getting to see them every year :)
So I'll say what I say every time....maybe next year!
Proud to be an American! Hope you had a great 4th of July, too!
En route!

Diggin' up bones!
Time in the kids area...Noah *loved* this conveyor belt system for moving the foam blocks.
Meanwhile, Samantha enjoyed splashing at the water table.
A snoozing Noah
Sam passed out for a few minutes on Papa John's shoulder at the end of the movie
A quick (and a little blurry, sorry!) cell phone pic from lunch. Delicious!
