life back in texas

intelligent as you might think the two of us are, somehow our moving plans landed us back in texas in the middle of august (read: hell on earth, aka the hottest time of the year). last year we managed to plan the move to ohio right before the winter. and we claim to be "planners?!" needless to say, the weather was not a plus to moving back this time of year, as i had grown quite accustomed to highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's!
despite the weather, we still enjoyed august in texas with the help of some family fun and friend-based distraction.
at the beginning of the month, we got a chance to meet up with friends of ours for a game night, including two of my friends from high school i hadn't seen in *ages* (adrienne had been attending grad school and nini was living in japan for the last year!). we had a great time playing apples to apples, things, and catching up in general.

on the 10th, we got to celebrate with our friend (and "adopted" sister) dana, who had passed her citizenship exam. she is officially a united states citizen!!! way to go dana!!!

later in the week, we spent some time on the lake with my parents, something we never got the chance to do while visiting from ohio because the weather never really cooperated. it was great to be back out on the water and enjoying the heat! the childers kids also showed off their rafting skills and had to show uncle matt and dana "how it's done!"

on the 15th, we celebrated dana's 31st birthday and had a mini going-away party for her. she flew back to germany a few days later, and while we are happy she is enjoying her life there with her boyfriend rudy, we miss her terribly!

happy august, everyone!
